Today in crypto, Hyperscale Data shares fell 17% to a split-adjusted record low on the day it announced the end of Bitcoin mining at its Michigan facility. New Jersey asked the US Supreme Court to settle whether states can regulate sports betting offered through prediction markets such as Kalshi, while US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded their best month of 2026 with $3.52 billion in August inflows.

Hyperscale Data ends Michigan BTC mining as holdings fall 79%Hyperscale Data has ended all Bitcoin mining operations at its Michigan facility as it prepares the site for an artificial intelligence data center customer.

On Wednesday, the company said that all Bitcoin miners at the facility were switched off following an inspection by the unidentified California-based neocloud provider. Hyperscale said it intends to sell the associated mining equipment.

Hyperscale said the AI customer has contracted for 20 megawatts (MW) of computing capacity under a 10-year master services agreement with two optional five-year extensions. The agreement may generate more than $1.2 billion over the maximum 20-year term. An additional 32 MW option could lift potential revenue above $3 billion, while the site is expected to support 340 MW.

The shutdown marks a further step in Hyperscale’s conversion of its Michigan facility from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure, a project it is funding through sales from its Bitcoin treasury.

Hyperscale cautioned that its expansion plans remain preliminary and subject to financing, approvals and other risks. The $1.2 billion estimate requires the customer to exercise both extension options, while the $3 billion projection also depends on it taking the additional capacity.

New Jersey takes prediction market fight to US Supreme CourtNew Jersey has asked the US Supreme Court to decide whether states can regulate sports betting offered through prediction markets such as Kalshi, escalating a nationwide fight over who has authority over the rapidly growing industry.

Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and state gaming officials filed a petition Wednesday seeking to overturn an April appeals court ruling that favored Kalshi. The Third Circuit found that federal commodities law likely gives the Commodity Futures Trading Commission exclusive authority over Kalshi’s sports event contracts, potentially overriding state gambling laws.

New Jersey argues that sports contracts offered by prediction markets are effectively wagers and should remain subject to state licensing, consumer protection and gambling regulations. Kalshi maintains that its contracts are federally regulated financial products and that the company cannot operate under 50 separate regulatory systems.

The dispute has intensified as courts weigh competing arguments over whether prediction markets fall under federal or state oversight. A Supreme Court ruling could ultimately determine whether the CFTC or individual states have authority over sports prediction markets nationwide.
