Today in crypto, Metaplanet secured shareholder approval to take a 93.7% stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League as part of its US expansion, World Liberty Financial’s USD1 stablecoin lost more than $400 million in market capitalization over two weeks and layer-1 blockchain Qubic halted its network after an attacker stole roughly $1.4 million from more than 1,400 wallets.
Metaplanet gains shareholder approval for US Bitcoin treasury expansionShareholders of Nasdaq-listed Super League have approved a transaction that would give Japanese Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet a 93.7% ownership stake in exchange for 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million in cash.
Under the agreement, Metaplanet will receive nearly 45 million common shares, preferred stock carrying governance rights and warrants to purchase additional shares. The deal would give Metaplanet control of Super League’s board and major corporate decisions.
Super League plans to rebrand as Superplanet and trade under the ticker SUPA, shifting its business toward accumulating Bitcoin. The company intends to fund future purchases primarily through preferred stock offerings rather than conventional debt.
The transaction would also give Metaplanet access to US dollar-denominated capital markets, supplementing its existing fundraising activities in Japan. Metaplanet could invest an additional $210 million through junior preferred shares.
Metaplanet currently holds 44,000 BTC, making it the second-largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder behind Strategy. The company has also proposed allocating up to 15% of its assets to strategic investments aimed at supporting Bitcoin purchases and dividend payments.
World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin sheds $400M in market capWorld Liberty Financial’s USD1 stablecoin has shed over $400 million in market capitalization over the past two weeks, driven by large redemptions on Ethereum and BNB Chain.
On Monday, CoinGecko data showed USD1’s market capitalization at about $4.02 billion, down from $4.43 billion on Oct. 6. That’s a decline of approximately $401 million, or 9.1%. World Liberty Financial’s proof-of-reserves dashboard separately showed approximately $4.01 billion in reserves.
The decline extends a period of concentrated redemptions on Ethereum and BNB Chain, according to blockchain research firm Onchain Benchmark. The research platform found that nearly $200 million in BNB Chain redemptions originated from a single unidentified address, although it could not establish who controlled the funds or why they were redeemed.
Despite the redemptions, USD1 maintained its dollar peg throughout the period examined by Onchain Benchmark, trading between $0.998 and $1.000.
The researchers found no evidence of a sustained depegging event, indicating that the decline in circulating supply was not accompanied by a significant loss of the token’s dollar value.
Qubic freezes chain after attacker drains 1.4K wallets with weak seedsLayer-1 blockchain network Qubic halted operations Sunday after an attacker reportedly exploited weakly generated wallet seeds to drain approximately $1.4 million from more than 1,400 accounts, according to the project.
In a statement on X, Qubic said the network was halted at tick 85,371,949, where it remains paused at the time of writing. Qubic said the vulnerability affected wallet seeds generated using any browser on an iPhone or iPad, Safari on a Mac until Oct. 18, 2026, or the Qubic iOS app before July 2025, leading to 2.94 trillion Qubit (QU) stolen.
“87.1% of the drained funds never left the Qubic network and remain frozen in place,” said Qubic. “The remaining 12.9% was sent to MEXC, whose team froze the receiving account within about an hour.”
The Qubic theft is the latest in a series of attacks tied to weak wallet seeds. In July, Coldcard disclosed that attackers had stolen funds from wallets whose seeds were weakened by a firmware bug. Similar flaws affected Trust Wallet’s browser extension and the Libbitcoin Explorer tool in 2023.
